Church School NEWS - January 2012

We will begin the New Year with the story of the Feast of Epiphany.  This month we will explore the Magi bringing gifts, the flight of the Holy Family into Egypt, Jesus’ baptism by John, and finish with the story of Jesus and Nathanael. Some of the key concepts for January are:  how we are known by Jesus, God’s presence with us, the joy of life with Jesus and God’s love for Jesus and us.  Each week we begin with the children all together for sharing and prayer before separating into two groups for a story and an activity.

The curriculum for this month is as follows:

January 1st – Happy New Year
January 8th – The Magi
       When they saw the star, they rejoiced.  Matthew 2:10
January 15th – Into Egypt
       The Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream.  Matthew 2:13
January 22 – John the Baptist
       With you I am well pleased.  Mark 1:11
January 29th - Jesus and Nathanael
       Come and See.  John 1:46

I invite you to prayerfully reflect on the following questions during this New Year:
* What overwhelming joy have you experienced on your life journey and what light does God give you?
* What gifts from your life do you want to offer Christ?
* When do you most need to remember that you are God’s dearly beloved and that God is deeply pleased with you?
